Shaquille O’Neal Pays for Funeral for Boy Killed in Crash

Tragedy struck on the night of April 10, 2020 in the form of a fatal bridge crash. A woman was traveling along Salt Mine Highway at the intersection of Sawmill Highway Friday night in Breaux Bridge. At the time, she had her son as well as three other juveniles in her vehicle.

When she approached the intersection at Sawmill Highway and Salt Mine Highway, she ran a stop sign. Her car then hit a ditch and crashed into a tree. Sadly, by the time the police and rescue crews arrived at the scene, two of the young boys in the car had passed away.

11-year old Keshon Batiste and 12-year old Trayvon Alexander were in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the crash. There were two other juveniles in the car as well. One was in the front passenger seat and the other was in the back with Keshon and Trayvon.

The two children were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the car – 47-year old Paula Thibeaux – as well as the other two youths were taken to the hospital. All are expected to make a full recovery.

The family of Trayvon Alexander was able to pay for their child’s burial. Unfortunately, the family of the other victim – Keshon Batiste was unable to afford their child’s funeral. A fundraiser was made in the hopes that the community could come together and help the family.

When Shaquille O’Neal learned of the tragedy, he stepped up immediately and offered to cover the remaining costs of the young boy’s burial and funeral.
