Elderly Man and Son Killed in ATV Crash in Desoto Parish

The police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Desoto Parish this past weekend. On Saturday, August 29, at about 3:30 pm, they arrived at the accident scene on Louisiana Highway 191 near Fisher Lane.

The crash involved a 2016 Kia Optima and a John Deere Gator ATV. Apparently, the man driving the ATV exited from a private driveway onto the highway. For some reason, he failed to yield. As a result, when he merged onto the road, he drove right into the path of an oncoming car.

The ATV was hit by a Kia Optima as it entered the highway. The man driving the ATV was 92-year old James Booker. His son, James Booker, Jr. was also on the vehicle. Neither man was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

As a result of the accident, both men on the ATV suffered fatal injuries. They were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Kia Optima was not injured in the crash.

The police aren’t sure what caused Booker to drive into the pathway of the Kia. They are still investigating the crash. Toxicology samples were collected, and the results of the tests are pending.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, any of the victims may have a potential legal claim. If they determine that the ATV malfunctioned, the family of both James Booker and James Booker. Jr. May have a potential claim for damages. Or, if they determine the driver of the Kia Optima was at fault, they’ll have a claim against the driver’s insurance policy.
