Debris on the road a frequent cause of a car crash

There are many risks for drivers on the roads of Louisiana that they must be wary of. Research is constantly striving to find out what causes a car accident and to seek out methods to stop them from happening. In some instances, these accidents occur due to issues that have nothing to do with drivers behaving recklessly, speeding, driving under the influence, or even because they are distracted. They can happen due to debris on the road.

Research from AAA discovered that there were more than 200,000 motor vehicle accidents between the years 2011 and 2014 because of debris. More than 500 people died and approximately 39,000 were injured. The concern over this stems from the increase in these types of crashes. Since 2001, accidents because of debris on the road have risen by 40 percent. They happen more often on the interstate in comparison to other roadways.

Certain strategies can be taken to try and avoid having debris come off of a vehicle. Suggestions include tying down items that might have the propensity to fly off. If the vehicle is a truck or large objects are being carted, they should be tied to the trailer or truck. Ensuring that the tire pressure on the vehicle is sufficient can avoid a blowout - something that can send pieces of tire onto the road and cause a car crash. Drivers who see debris on the road are advised to look as far ahead as possible so they can have the chance to move around a piece of debris on the road. Tailgating is also a reason for drivers to hit debris.

37 percent of fatal accidents were attributed to drivers swerving to avoid an object in the road and losing control of their vehicles. In addition, the majority of the accidents of this nature occur between 10 a.m. and 3:59 p.m., as this is the time when drivers are carting heavy items. When there is a car accident due to debris on the road and that debris came loose because of a negligent driver, it can lead to significant damage. In a car crash, if catastrophic injuries or fatalities result, those who have suffered a loss might have the basis to pursue compensation through a legal filing. It is imperative that there be a crash reconstruction. This is why those who were affected should speak to a legal professional as soon as possible.
