How to explain road rage

Louisiana residents might have heard of a recent case in which a woman was shot and killed in a road rage incident. While many people experience feelings of anger while driving, it is not clear why this happens. One theory is that a car is a small space that people feel invincible in. Because of this, those who may act calm and rational in other areas of life explode with anger in their cars.

Product liability awards rise in 2014

When products have design or manufacturing defects, they can put the public at risk for serious injury or even death. In the past year, product recalls have increased, Congress has held hearings and juries have awarded more billion-dollar settlements than they have in a decade. The largest award was for $23.6 billion for the family of a 36-year-old smoker who died, and the second-largest for $9 billion was to a New Yorker man who claimed that his bladder cancer was the result of a diabetes medicine.

Louisiana man killed in moped collision

On Thursday, Feb. 12, a 33-year-old St. Bernard Parish man was killed while driving his 2013 Taoi moped eastbound on Louisiana 300 near Deborah Drive. The accident occurred when a 2001 Chevrolet Astro van turned from Deborah Drive onto Louisiana 300 in front of the moped causing it to hit the rear of the van. The moped driver was thrown from the vehicle.

Worn tires may cause Louisiana accidents

All motorists have a legal obligation to operate a vehicle with reasonable care in order to reduce the potential for causing harm to others. Keeping a vehicle properly maintained is just one aspect of safeguarding against auto accidents. The condition of the vehicle's tires, for example, warrants specific attention regarding wear and tear. Some research suggests that when the tread on tires become worn, traction can be significantly affected, which affects a driver's ability to safely control the vehicle in a variety of circumstances.

Louisiana car accidents and whiplash injuries

Whiplash is one of the most frequently occurring types of injuries from which people who are involved in car accidents may suffer. The injury, which involves soft tissue damage to the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the neck, can result in debilitation lasting for weeks, months or even years, depending on its severity.

Airbags subject to second recall

As Louisiana residents may know, a previous recall in some of the 2.1 million vehicles due to defective airbags may have failed to solve the problem. Replacement parts may be unavailable until the end of the year for vehicles that were previously recalled due to problems with faulty inflators. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, earlier repairs are believed to be effective in up to 85 percent of the recalled vehicles, and consumers are urged to wait until components are available to make repairs and not disable their airbags. Toyota, however, is urging customers to go ahead with disabling them in the meantime.

Sunbeam recalls defective heater that sprays hot oil

The Sunbeam Corporation has issued a recall affecting anyone in Louisiana who purchased a product they manufactured that has been shown to be defective. Their Holmes brand of space heaters has been demonstrated to be capable of malfunctioning and spraying hot oil during ordinary use. This has the capacity to be extremely dangerous and damaging to both structures and people.
