Motorcyclist dies in Louisiana crash

On June 12, a motorcycle accident in Metairie left one man dead. According to authorities, the fatal incident took place on Clearview Parkway near Interstate 10.

Authorities stated that a 26-year-old man was driving an SUV north on Clearview Parkway when he, attempting to make a left turn onto the I-10 Service Road, crossed the southbound path of a motorcycle. The SUV driver apparently did not suffer injuries in the collision but allegedly tried to flee the scene of the accident.

His attempt failed, however, because the motorcycle became wedged beneath the SUV following the collision, according to police. The motorcyclist suffered injuries and was transported to East Jefferson General Hospital. That is where officials later pronounced him dead.

Police charged the 26-year-old driver with multiple traffic violations and vehicular homicide. Yet, police indicated that they are still investigating the fatal accident.

Accidents like this one may stem from one of many causes. Drunk driving is one example. Distracted driving is another. When that is the case, certain family members of the motorcyclist who died in the accident may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver.

By pursuing such a lawsuit, the deceased victim's family members may seek restitution for the damages they suffered as a result of the motorcycle accident. These damages may include but are not limited to the expenses associated with their loved one's funeral services, burial and estate administration. Furthermore, the victim's family members might be awarded financial compensation for lost earnings if the decedent had contributed income to dependents or the family household while alive.
