Lung cancer victim's family sues companies over asbestos exposure

A lawsuit in the Orleans Parish Central District Court in Louisiana has been filed by the family of a woman who died of lung cancer. The lawsuit names 10 companies as defendants. These companies are manufacturers, suppliers, sellers, contractors, and miners of asbestos products. The lawsuit claims these companies are responsible for the woman's death because they distributed and used products that were "unreasonably dangerous...when concerning the safety of individuals."

The woman who died lived in the home of a man who worked for Celotox Corporation. It is not specified in media sources whether she was his wife. The lawsuit claims the woman died as a result from lung cancer caused by secondary exposure to asbestos fibers that the man brought home from working with asbestos products from those companies, as well as neighborhood and environmental exposure while living on the West Bank.

The suit seeks damages of an unspecified amount for emotional and mental anguish, medical expenses, lost chance of survival and all present and future survival.

Exposure to asbestos can result in many health conditions, which can include lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma. It can be difficult to determine exactly when someone was exposed, but family members who inhaled asbestos fibers from workers' clothing long ago may only recently begin to encounter the symptoms of a disease related to such exposure.

If you believe you have lost a loved one due to asbestos exposure, then contact a Louisiana wrongful death attorney. These professionals can help advise you of your rights in such a case and help file a civil suit against those responsible. You may be entitled to compensation for such claims as medical expenses, pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of consort and other damages.
