Dangerous dialysis products alleged in wrongful death lawsuit

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Fresenius Medical Care by the children of a woman on dialysis. The lawsuit was filed in Louisiana, but was transferred to the Massachusetts' U.S. District Court. There are currently another 161similiar cases against Fresenius pending in that jurisdiction.

35-year-old Patterson passenger killed in one-vehicle crash

A one-vehicle auto accident on May 25 claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman from Patterson, Louisiana. The woman was a passenger in the front seat of a 2007 Toyota Rav4, which was driven by a 46-year-old man from Gibson.

Teenager passenger dies in Calcasieu Parish car accident

An early morning car accident on May 16 has claimed the life of an 18-year-old from Elton, Louisiana. According to Louisiana State Police, the two-vehicle accident occurred about 7:00 a.m., on Hwy 397 and Ward Line Road.

Settlement reached in fatal helicopter-airplane crash

A settlement has been reached in a fatal 2010 aviation accident that involved an AirCare 5 helicopter and a Cessna Long airplane. The two aircraft collided in midair. A 32-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were killed in the crash that occurred on New Year's Eve near the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport in Weyers Cave, Virginia. The two fatalities were in the airplane.

Appeals court: Jailers not deliberately indifferent in suicide

The Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the plaintiff in a wrongful death lawsuit did not prove that jailers at the Iberville Parish Jail were deliberately indifferent in the suicide death of a female inmate in 2008.

Unrestrained 10-, 15-year-old killed in car accident

Two minors are dead after a 2:00 a.m., car accident early Monday morning in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. The minors, a 10-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were in a car driven by a 37-year-old man who was traveling on Hwy 44 near Hwy 54. Authorities are not sure why the driver lost control of the vehicle, but it left the roadway and hit a tree.

$28 million punitive award restored in Missouri plane crash suit

The families of five people who died in a plane crash in Franklin County, Missouri, in 2006 will split a punitive award of $28 million as well as compensatory damages of $20 million. A jury awarded the families the damages in April 2011 in the lawsuit against Doncasters, Inc., a Connecticut airplane parts manufacturer.

First Actos trial ends in $6.5 million judgment against Takeda

With more than 1,200 lawsuits pending in a federal court in Louisiana against Takeda Pharmaceutical, a trial against the same drug manufacturer in California has garnered a great deal of attention. A jury has awarded $6.5 million to a patient because they feel the drug maker did not do enough to warn him of the increased risk of bladder cancer that came with taking Actos. This product liability case has been at trial for the last two months.

Methadone overdose death prompts lawsuit against Louisiana doctor

A lawsuit has been filed in the Federal Court in New Orleans, Louisiana, by the parents of a man who died after overdosing on methadone. The wrongful death lawsuit lists a physician and a Louisiana insurance company as the defendants.
