Wet roads lead to crashes, warning in Louisiana

During a recent 24-hour period in Louisiana, wet, slippery roads caused two crashes that resulted in three fatalities. This highlights the dangers that inclement weather can pose to drivers, as officers said the weather compounded with reckless driving in both crashes.

In one single-car crash, a passenger in the back seat died when the car spun off the road and hit a tree. Investigators say he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The victims in another two-vehicle crash were also unbuckled.

Drivers can take precautions to minimize the risk of becoming involved in a crash on dangerously slick roads. Motorists should consider driving more slowly on wet surfaces to allow for poor handling. In addition, use proper lighting and pay extra attention. And, as always, buckle up. Wearing a seat belt is one of the most important things a motorist can do to minimize the risk of serious injury or death if an accident does occur.

Slippery, wet roads can exacerbate problem driving behaviors like speeding, distraction or inattentiveness. However, even the most careful and vigilant drivers are vulnerable to the actions of other motorists and outside forces like the weather. Even if you take every precaution, accidents can happen. The Highway Patrol advised drivers to call *LSP, or *577, if they see unsafe driving.

If you or someone you love have been hurt in an accident caused by a negligent motorist or improperly maintained roads, it is important to speak with someone who can help you. Consider contacting an experienced personal injury attorney who can review your case and advise you of any appropriate legal action.
