Suit in Louisiana filed after nun suffers car crash injuries

After an accident on Aug. 7, 2013, injured a nun, the sister of the Franciscan Handmaids of Mary filed a suit in the New Orleans Parish Central District Court. The claim states that a man struck the nun's vehicle when he attempted to turn left against a traffic light. The nun filed the suit against the driver, the vehicle's owner and the owner's insurance company.

The suit contends that the sister's car was totaled and that the nun suffered injuries after the accident. The sister reportedly suffers from permanent and severe injuries to the neck, shoulder, back and pelvic area. The suit reports that she cannot perform typical daily tasks and says that she has undergone physical therapy and extensive medical treatment for injuries related to the crash.

In addition to physical disabilities and continued pain, the sister says she suffers from mental anguish and has anxiety, shock, trouble sleeping and depression. The suit requests an unknown amount for past, present and future medical bills and mental and physical pain and suffering.

According to the lawsuit, the driver who is allegedly responsible for the accident was arrested at the crash site for failure to provide proof of insurance. However, the driver's auto insurance is listed in the article. The driver faces accusations that include traveling at too great a speed, negligence and operating a vehicle in a careless and reckless manner.

When a motor vehicle accident causes injuries, a negligent driver is responsible for the costs a victim incurs after the accident. An injured party could be entitled to compensation for medical expenses and lost wages when filing a personal injury suit in civil court.
