Louisiana woman's hand injured by blender, seeks compensation

The citizens of Louisiana should be free from dangerous products and can often hold manufacturer's liable for any injuries their products cause. In some situations, a consumer may use a product and exactly follow the directions and still be injured, which could possibly indicate a design defect. Design defects will make an item unsafe, even if used carefully and properly, and anyone injured by a design defect has the right to seek compensation from the manufacturer who made the item.

A Louisiana woman is doing just that; after she was injured using an immersion blender, she has filed a lawsuit against Conair Corp. for her medical costs. The Ascension Parish woman's hand slipped on the handle and her right hand was severely injured when the blade of the blender sliced into her. She had been making a milkshake and was holding the blender in her left hand at the time of the accident.

The woman says that she was injured because the design of the blender is inherently dangerous. According to her lawsuit, the piece that is supposed to cover the blade is not deep enough to sufficiently cover it, which exposes the consumer to injury. The woman also noted that the handle was slippery and it was very easy for someone's hand to slip while using the blender.

After this horrific accident, the woman is asking for $75,000 in damages. Specifically, she is seeking compensation for loss of enjoyment of life, disability, disfigurement and scarring, medical costs, pain and suffering, loss of benefits and earnings, and mental anguish.
